Mattarella Hails Luna Rossa’s Thrilling Performance in Italian Sailing
Rome: President Sergio Mattarella on Thursday met with a delegation of the Italian Sailing Federation, marking the 100th anniversary of its foundation and celebrating the Women’s America’s Cup, while praising Italy’s Luna Rossa for its thrilling performance.
According to Ansa News Agency, President Mattarella expressed admiration for Luna Rossa, noting its long-standing ability to captivate Italians. He also highlighted Italy’s recent achievements in sailing, including two gold medals at the Olympic Games in Paris last summer, as well as successes in world championships and youth competitions.
President Mattarella emphasized the growing importance of sailing both in Italy and internationally. He remarked on the deep connection between Italy, the sea, and sailing, which is rooted in geography, history, and culture. This connection, he believes, encourages many young Italians to take up sailing early, marking a significant achievement for the federation.
In his address, Mattarella described following Luna Rossa’s performances as “thrilling and extremely captivating.” He underscored the notion that a healthy and authentic relationship with nature enables engagement with the most advanced technology. Last October, Italy’s Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli triumphed over Britain’s Athena Pathway to claim victory in the inaugural Puig Women’s America’s Cup.
