Mattarella Attends Mass by Anti-Mafia Priest in Caivano
Caivano: President Sergio Mattarella on Sunday attended a Mass in Caivano’s Parco Verde area after accepting an invitation from an anti-mafia priest in the town near Naples, Don Fabrizio Patriciello. The visit was seen as a significant gesture of support and solidarity towards the community plagued by crime and violence.
According to Ansa News Agency, the head of State expressed gratitude to Don Patriciello for his efforts, acknowledging the priest’s dedication and the importance of the event. He also extended his best wishes to “the community of Caivano, an important community” that has endured challenges related to juvenile delinquency and Camorra mafia activities.
Caivano has been undergoing a major urban regeneration program following a shocking incident in July 2023, where two cousins aged 10 and 12 were victims of a teen gang rape. This event galvanized efforts to improve the area and address the underlying social issues.
President Mattarella emphasized the importance of a hopeful future for the youth. “My best wishes are not for the year that has just begun but for the children and young people,” he stated. “There is hope for them. We all feel the need to ensure that children and young people have a future of growth in prosperity, culture, and professional engagement. And this is my wish for the entire community.”
