Mattarella and Meloni Offer Condolences Following School Shooting in Graz

Rome: President Sergio Mattarella and Premier Giorgia Meloni on Tuesday expressed sorrow at the school shooting in the Austrian city of Graz in which 10 people died. Mattarella wrote to his Austrian counterpart Alexander Van der Bellen to express Italy’s condolences.

According to Ansa News Agency, Mattarella conveyed his condolences through a written message, stating, “In this moment of profound sadness, making myself the interpreter of the feelings of the Italian Republic, I would like to express my heartfelt condolences and sincerest sympathy to the families of the victims.” He further extended his thoughts to the injured, wishing them a swift and complete recovery.

Premier Giorgia Meloni also expressed her condolences through a post on X. She stated, “It is with sadness that I learned of the tragic news involving a school in Graz, Austria, where a student killed several people and injured others, some of them seriously.” Meloni extended her sympathy on behalf of the Italian Government to the families affected by the tragedy, adding her hopes for recovery for those injured.
