Man’s Jawbone Mistakenly Removed in Hospital Mix-Up

Rome: A man’s jawbone was mistakenly removed last May at a Rome hospital due to a mix-up of biopsies, leading doctors to mistakenly believe he had a facial tumor.

According to Ansa News Agency, the incident occurred at Policlinico Umberto I Hospital after the man underwent dental procedures to remove a wisdom tooth and a cyst. During the process, he was X-rayed and biopsied, but the tests were inadvertently swapped with those of another patient who had a jaw tumor.

As a result of this mix-up, the man’s jawbone was unnecessarily removed, and he is now seeking damages. The Milan daily, Corriere della Sera, reported the incident on Thursday, highlighting the grave error that led to this unnecessary surgical procedure.
