Majority of Italians to Celebrate Ferragosto Away from Home, Reports Coldiretti

Rome: Six in ten Italians will spend the mid-August Ferragosto holiday away from home, according to Coldiretti farm group. This annual holiday, held on August 15th, will see nearly 57% of Italians enjoying the festivities at the seaside, in the countryside, or in the mountains, often accompanied by family and friends.

According to Ansa News Agency, the Coldiretti/Ix¨ survey highlights that the most popular way to spend Ferragosto is through a convivial getaway with loved ones. While many will head to natural settings like the seaside or mountains, a smaller number plan to attend public events. For 27% of Italians, Ferragosto will be an ordinary day, often spent working, particularly in the service and restaurant sectors, with 16% opting to relax at home.

The survey also indicates that among those dining out, picnics are the top choice, preferred by 7.5 million Italians. Others will visit restaurants, agritourism spots, festivals, bars, and takeaways. Agritourism, particularly, is experiencing growth, with Campagna Amica estimating that around 650,000 tourists will visit over 26,000 agritourism establishments across the nation during Ferragosto week. This growth is fueled largely by food and wine tourism.

Additionally, the Coldiretti/Ix¨ survey finds that nearly 39% of Italians will engage in activities such as tastings, winery tours, visits to oil mills, dairies, or breweries, and even cooking classes. Despite international concerns like conflicts and trade wars, Ferragosto remains a pivotal moment for Italian holidays, with 18.6 million tourists choosing to concentrate their vacations in August this year.
