Leonardo, Airbus, and Thales Announce Merger of Space Businesses

Rome: Italian defence giant Leonardo announced that it has reached an agreement to merge its space businesses with those of Airbus and Thales. The collaboration is set to enhance Europe’s strategic autonomy in the vital space sector, which supports critical infrastructure and services in telecommunications, global navigation, earth observation, science, exploration, and national security.

According to Ansa News Agency, the companies issued a joint statement highlighting the merger’s potential to foster innovation and strengthen investments in future space products and services. The alliance aims to leverage the complementary assets and expertise of Leonardo, Airbus, and Thales, creating a new player in the industry.

The merger is anticipated to generate mid triple-digit million euro synergies in total annual operating income within five years of closing. Following the announcement, Leonardo’s share price saw a 2.9% increase in early trading on the Milan stock exchange.
