League Criticizes Health Minister’s Decision to Disband Vaccine Panel

Rome: The rightwing League party expressed dissatisfaction on Monday over Health Minister Orazio Schillaci’s decision to disband the national consultative panel on vaccines, known as NITAG. The decision followed controversy surrounding the inclusion of two doctors opposed to vaccinations on the committee.

According to Ansa News Agency, Alberto Bagnai, a League member and part of the Covid commission alongside fellow party member Claudio Borghi, criticized Schillaci, claiming he succumbed to the demands of “the usual scientists.” Borghi added that the minister had “folded under pressure from the opposition centre-left Democratic Party (PD).”

Italy’s association of internal doctors commented on the issue, stressing that “the NITAG shouldn’t be an expression of political stances.”
