Last Group of 15 Flotilla Italians Set to Return After Detention by Israel

Rome: The last group of 15 Italians, who were part of the activists in the Global Sumud Flotilla detained by Israel last week, are preparing to return home on Monday. This group was among those intercepted by Israel while attempting to deliver aid to Gaza.

According to Ansa News Agency, Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani stated that these Italians will depart on a charter flight to Athens. The Italian embassy will assist them both during their departure and subsequent transfer from Greece to Italy.

Previously, four Italian lawmakers involved in the flotilla were released on Friday, and an additional 26 activists returned to Italy on Saturday. The final group of 15 had delayed their return due to waiting for an official expulsion order from Israel, as they declined to sign a voluntary release form.

In total, around 170 activists are expected to be expelled on Monday. Some activists who have already returned to Italy reported experiencing degrading treatment, including inadequate food and water, being forced to sleep on the floor, and some being denied essential medication.
