King Charles and Queen Camilla Commence Four-Day State Visit to Italy

Rome: King Charles III and Queen Camilla of the UK arrived in Italy Monday for a four-day State visit in which they will visit Rome and Ravenna.

According to Ansa News Agency, the British royals will engage with Italy’s President Sergio Mattarella and Premier Giorgio Meloni during their three days in Rome. An important part of their visit includes a trip to Ravenna on Thursday, where they will pay homage to Dante’s Tomb.

A significant event during this visit is scheduled for Wednesday when King Charles will address a joint session of the Italian Parliament at the Lower House. This special ceremony, attended by both Chambers of the Italian Parliament, marks the first time British royals will participate in such an event. King Charles will become the first British monarch to address a joint session of Italy’s Parliament.

In Ravenna, King Charles will also attend a reception to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the province’s liberation from Nazi occupation by Allied Forces.

It was initially planned for the royals to meet Pope Francis. However, Buckingham Palace announced last month that this meeting has been postponed by mutual agreement due to the pontiff’s recovery needs. Pope Francis, 88, was recently discharged from the hospital after a 38-day battle with pneumonia, with doctors advising a convalescence period of at least two months.
