KDNP Leader Advocates for Economic Neutrality Amidst EU Criticism

Budapest: KDNP faction leader István Simicskó criticized the European Union leadership for poor decision-making and praised the Hungarian government’s efforts to protect its citizens in a speech in parliament before Monday’s agenda. Simicskó emphasized the need for economic neutrality, warning against the resurgence of restrictive trade barriers akin to the “iron curtain.”

According to KDNP, Simicskó highlighted the importance of a new economic direction and endorsed the national consultation process initiated to gather public opinion on this critical issue. He encouraged broad participation in the consultation, framing it as essential for shaping Hungary’s economic strategies.

Miklós Panyi, the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office, also spoke highly of the national consultation, describing it as a cornerstone of democratic engagement that strengthens the government’s position in dealings with Brussels. Panyi criticized some European leaders as unsuitable for managing EU affairs and
accused them of attempting to undermine the Hungarian government, which has remained in power for 14 consecutive years. He defended the national consultation as a significant democratic and political innovation, under attack by those opposed to the current Hungarian administration.
