John Elkann Attends 50th Anniversary Celebration of Niaf in Washington

Washington: John Elkann was among the hundreds of guests who attended an evening organized by the Italian ambassador to Washington, Marco Peronaci, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the National Italian American Foundation (Niaf).

According to Ansa News Agency, the event saw the presence of prominent figures including House Vice President Giorgio Mul¨, Tourism Minister Daniele Santanch¨, Minister for Relations with Parliament Luca Ciriani, Friuli Venezia Giulia President Massimiliano Fedriga, and Lazio President Francesco Rocca. Lazio was honored as the guest region at the gala. Also in attendance were Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis, Unipol president Carlo Cimbri, and numerous representatives from the U.S. administration.

Peronaci began the evening with a moment of silence for three carabinieri-Valerio Dapr , Davide Bernardello, and Marco Piffari-who were killed in a farmhouse explosion in Verona. He highlighted the robust relations between the United States and Italy, underscored by the collaboration between Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Donald Trump. The U.S. president’s reinstatement of ‘Columbus Day’ was cited as a testament to this bond. In his address, Mul¨ emphasized the courage of Italian immigrants and their impact on the 17 million Italian Americans in the U.S. Ciriani noted the strengthened ties between the two nations, attributing it to the friendship between Meloni and Trump.
