Italy’s Poverty Risk Rises to 23.1% in 2024, Reports Istat

Rome: The proportion of the Italian population at risk of poverty and social exclusion has risen to 23.1% in 2024, an increase from 22.8% the previous year, according to Istat’s latest report released on Wednesday.

According to Ansa News Agency, the percentage of individuals specifically at risk of poverty remained steady at 18.9%. Similarly, those experiencing serious material and social deprivation saw little change, with figures at 4.6% compared to 4.7% previously. However, there was a slight rise in the number of individuals in families with low employment levels, increasing from 8.9% to 9.2%.

Additionally, the report highlighted a change in the average annual income of families, which increased nominally by 4.2% to 37,511 euros. Despite this nominal increase, the real income declined by 1.6% due to inflation, as noted by the national statistics bureau.
