Italy’s Domestic Workforce Sees Continued Decline in 2024: INPS Report

Rome: Italy had 817,403 domestic workers who contributed at least one month to the pensions and social security agency in 2024. INPS said Wednesday that this figure marks a 3% decrease compared to 2023, continuing a three-year trend of declining numbers in the domestic workforce.

According to Ansa News Agency, carers for the elderly now constitute 50.5% of the domestic workforce, surpassing other roles such as babysitters. This shift is attributed to Italy’s ageing population. The domestic workforce itself is also getting older, with 44.3% of workers over the age of 55 and 25.7% over the age of 60.
