Italy Supports Hydroelectric Project in Congo

Italy: Italy is strengthening its partnership with the Democratic Republic of Congo for the Inga 3 hydropower project to transform hydropower resources into economic development. This significant collaboration aims to harness the potential of the Congo River to generate electricity and stimulate economic growth in the region.

According to Ansa News Agency, this project was discussed in Kinshasa by Italy’s ambassador, Dino Sorrentino, and Congolese Foreign Minister Therese Kaykwamba Wagner. The discussions underscored the mutual interest in developing the Inga 3 project to address energy needs and foster sustainable economic progress.

It was also decided to organize a roadshow between Italy and Congo to mobilize new partners on the project. Currently, only 21 percent of the Congolese population has access to electricity, but the government is initiating a series of investments and reforms to increase energy production, attract private sector investors, and improve the performance of the national energy compa
ny, with the goal of increasing electricity access to 62 percent by 2030.
