Italy Faces Shortfall of 2.2 Million ‘Green Workers’

Rome: Italy has a shortfall of almost 2.2 million workers qualified in the sectors of energy conservation and environmental sustainability, the Confartigianato artisan and small business association said on Monday. It said Italian companies planned to hire 4,447,370 workers with ‘Green skills’ in 2024, 80.6% of their total hires for the year, but were unable to fill 2,197,620 of the vacancies with professionals qualified to do the jobs.

According to Ansa News Agency, Confartigianato President Marco Granelli highlighted the risk of pursuing a Green transition without adequately skilled Green workers. The gap underscores a significant challenge for Italy’s labor market as it aims to align workforce skills with sustainability goals.
