Italy Develops Emergency and Reconstruction Strategy for Gaza

Rome: Italy has unveiled a strategic plan aimed at addressing emergencies and facilitating the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, as announced by Premier Giorgia Meloni’s office following a pivotal reconstruction summit held in Rome on Wednesday.

According to Ansa News Agency, the initiative follows the signing of the Middle East peace agreement, prompting Italy to swiftly embark on a coordinated effort. This strategic approach seeks to manage emergencies and rebuild the Gaza Strip effectively. The immediate focus is on identifying urgent interventions that are feasible in the short term, with an emphasis on humanitarian and healthcare support. The broader objective is to formulate a comprehensive plan that synergizes efforts among all institutions and stakeholders involved.

The Ministry of Education and Universities has outlined its intentions to establish a university in the Gaza Strip, as confirmed at the Italy for Gaza meeting held at Palazzo Chigi. Proposed initiatives include the activation of distance learning courses, utilizing both traditional and online universities, and the creation of common areas equipped with internet access and digital tools.

Plans for constructing a university in Gaza are underway, with provisions for suitable study and research spaces. Additional focus will be on the development of telemedicine projects and the establishment of local facilities for producing and customizing prosthetics. These efforts will benefit from the expertise of Italian institutions renowned in the orthopedic and prosthetic sectors.

The reconstruction summit, chaired by Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, took place in the absence of Premier Meloni, who was engaged in an Aqaba Process meeting addressing extremism and terrorism elsewhere in Rome.
