Italy Advocates Euro-Atlantic Security Guarantees for Ukraine
Rome: Italy is convinced Ukraine should have guarantees in a Euro-Atlantic context after any possible future ceasefire deal with Russia, Premier Giorgia Meloni’s office at Palazzo Chigi said after a government summit on her participation Wednesday in the Ukraine summit in Paris Thursday.
According to Ansa News Agency, the meeting reaffirmed Italy’s commitment to building, alongside European and Western allies, including the United States, solid and effective security guarantees for Ukraine grounded in the Euro-Atlantic context. The commitment underscores a model partly inspired by Article 5 of the Washington Treaty, which is gaining traction among international partners.
Meloni is set to attend the Summit on Peace and Security of Ukraine in Paris, convened by French President Emmanuel Macron. The summit will bring together the so-called coalition of the willing, focusing on the establishment of lasting peace and security measures for Ukraine.
