Meanwhile, central and northern regions are experiencing more stable conditions, though local instability persists in mountainous areas. The first indications of the impending change are expected to manifest tomorrow, with thunderstorms forecasted to occur in the Alps this afternoon. Central and western Liguria may also experience thunderstorms by evening or nightfall.

The most significant weather event is anticipated between Wednesday, August 20, and Thursday, August 21. The low-pressure front, accompanied by significantly cooler air, is set to trigger a severe wave of weather across central and northern Italy. Regions such as Liguria, Lombardy, Veneto, Friuli, and Tuscany are expected to be the hardest hit. Given the accumulated ground heat from previous hot days, the impending weather conditions could be particularly violent, potentially resulting in hailstorms or flash floods.

Another factor to consider in the coming weeks and months is the elevated temperatures of the seas surrounding Italy, which could provide the energy needed to develop especially violent storm cells. Following the intense weather deterioration, there is a possibility that high pressure may attempt to resurface. However, many medium- to long-term weather dynamics will be influenced by the progression of Hurricane Erin, which, after moving along the East Coast of the United States, is expected to head toward Europe and impact the weather patterns across the continent.

In terms of specific weather forecasts, Monday, August 18, will see mostly sunny conditions in the North with some thunderstorms in the Piedmont Alps, and less warm temperatures overall. The Center will experience thunderstorms in inland areas, while the South will see thunderstorms in mountainous areas but sunny weather elsewhere. On Tuesday, August 19, the North will remain sunny with more frequent thunderstorms in the Alps and the Northwest plains by evening. The Center will be sunny, with occasional thunderstorms in mountainous areas, and the South will be mostly sunny throughout. By Wednesday, August 20, strong thunderstorms and a drop in temperatures are expected in the North, especially in the western regions. Tuscany will see slight worsening with thunderstorms, while the South will remain warm and partly cloudy. The outlook for Thursday suggests more severe weather, with conditions improving by Friday, and temperatures gradually decreasing.
