Italian Wages 8% Lower Than 2021 in Real Terms, Reports Istat

Rome: Istat said Tuesday that contractual wages were 8% lower in real terms in March 2025 compared to January 2021. The national statistics agency highlighted a particularly unfavourable wage situation in the private services and public administration sectors, with these areas experiencing significant declines.

According to Ansa News Agency, the drops in real wages were less severe in the agriculture and industry sectors. Despite the overall decline, Istat reported that its hourly wage index experienced a slight increase of 0.4% from February to March 2025 and a 4% rise compared to March of the previous year.
