Rome: Italy’s unemployment rate fell to 5.8% in October, marking a decrease of 0.2 percentage points from the previous month, as reported by Istat on Monday. This decline reflects a positive shift in the country’s labor market dynamics, with significant changes observed in various employment sectors.
According to Ansa News Agency, the national statistics agency Istat also highlighted a notable decrease in the jobless rate among young individuals under 25 who are active in the labor market, which fell by 1.1 percentage points to 17.7%. This improvement suggests enhanced opportunities for younger job seekers in Italy.
The data further revealed that, after a decline in September, the number of employed individuals in Italy saw an increase in October. Specifically, employment rose by 47,000, bringing the total working population to 24.092 million. This uptick was driven by an increase in people hired on permanent contracts and self-employment, while the number of temporary workers experienced a decline.

s report also indicated that, compared to October 2023, there was an increase of 363,000 in the number of people employed. The employment rate saw an uptick to 62.5% in October, representing a rise of 0.1 percentage points.
Additionally, the inactivity rate, which measures the percentage of the population not actively seeking employment, rose by 0.1 percentage points to 33.6%. This subtle increase indicates shifts within the labor market dynamics, potentially reflecting changes in workforce participation preferences.
