Italian Jazz Saxophonist and Composer James Senese Passes Away at 80

Milan: Italian jazz saxophonist and composer James Senese has died at the age of 80, a close friend, Enzo Avitabile, said via social media on Wednesday. Senese was a pivotal figure in the Italian music scene, known for his significant contributions to jazz and progressive rock.

According to Ansa News Agency, Senese co-founded the jazz-progressive rock band Napoli Centrale, which gained considerable success in the 1970s. His career was marked by a long and fruitful partnership with the late Neapolitan singer-songwriter Pino Daniele, which further solidified his status as a prominent musician.

Avitabile expressed his sorrow on social media, stating, “Words are not enough for such great pain,” and went on to commend Senese for his exceptional talent, dedication, passion, and research. “You were an example in music and in life,” he added, highlighting the impact Senese had on those around him both personally and professionally.
