Italian Gelato Celebrated at Vienna Embassy with New Flavour Launch

Vienna: The Italian Embassy in Austria hosted the annual spring celebration of Italian gelato as part of the European Day of Artisan Gelato. This marks the third consecutive year the event has been organized by the Association of Italian Ice Cream Makers in Austria (A.G.I.A.).

According to Ansa News Agency, the event featured several notable speakers, including Deputy Italian Ambassador in Vienna, Gabriele De Stefano, Vienna’s City and Regional Councillor Michael Trinko, A.G.I.A. President Silvio Molin Pradel, and Domenico Belmonte, President of Artglace. Giovanni De Lorenzi, Managing Director of Longarone Fiere Dolomiti, also addressed the attendees.

A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the new “Hallelujah” flavour, introduced for Gelato Day 2025 in tribute to the Jubilee. Additionally, this year’s Austrian flavours, dedicated to the Strauss family of composers, were unveiled. Eduard Strauss, a descendant of the composers, was present and received a commemorative plaque. Guests enjoyed these flavours, courtesy of Eissalon am Schwedenplatz and Paolo Bortolotti.

Merino Matiuzzi, from Zoppe di Cadore, was another distinguished guest, representing a family with a history of selling ice cream on Vienna’s streets. A small exhibition showcased this legacy. The event also featured Val di Zoldo ice cream makers crafting handmade ice creams and hot wafers using vintage machines, adding a nostalgic touch to the celebration.
