Italian Exports Surge by 4.9% in June, Boosted by US Trade

Rome: Italian exports experienced a significant increase of 4.9% year-over-year in June, primarily driven by robust trade with the United States, as reported by Istat on Monday.

According to Ansa News Agency, the statistics agency revealed that Italian exports not only showed annual growth but also a monthly rise. Compared to May 2025, exports increased by 4%, with a notable 4.9% rise in value from June 2024, largely attributed to a 10.3% increase in purchases from the United States before the implementation of new tariffs. The annual growth in export volume was recorded at 0.8%.

Imports also saw an upward trend, with a 3.3% increase monthly and a 4.8% rise in value year-over-year, accompanied by a 2.6% growth in volume.

Istat identified several sectors that significantly contributed to the export growth, including pharmaceuticals, chemical-medicinal products, and botanicals, which surged by 39.0%. Transportation equipment, excluding motor vehicles, rose by 15.9%, while food, beverages, and tobacco increased by 6.0%, and electrical appliances saw a 3.5% rise.

Conversely, the exports of motor vehicles, computers, electronic and optical equipment, and leather goods, excluding clothing, experienced declines of 2.9%, 2.7%, and 2.2% respectively, when compared to the previous year.
