International Chaos Not Generated by Trump Says Meloni

Rome: Premier Giorgia Meloni stated that attributing the growing instability on the international stage to US President Donald Trump’s decisions would be incorrect. Meloni addressed the Senate ahead of this week’s EU summit, emphasizing her disagreement with the notion that Trump is responsible for the current chaos.

According to Ansa News Agency, Meloni argued that blaming Trump oversimplifies the situation. She acknowledged the presence of escalating chaos but insisted it is not a recent development. Furthermore, Meloni highlighted the breach in the ceasefire between Israel and Iran as a potential indicator of internal divisions within Tehran.

Meloni noted that initially, the situation seemed promising following Trump’s announcement of the ceasefire. However, Iran’s violation of the truce has complicated matters, raising the possibility of an Israeli response. She expressed hope that any response would be measured and symmetrical. Despite the violation, Iran has reiterated its desire for a truce, which Meloni believes could signal internal divisions in the country that need to be considered.

The premier remains optimistic about advancing towards a truce and resuming negotiations. She emphasized that if Iran were to abandon its nuclear program for military purposes, it would eliminate a significant threat to Israel and the broader region. Achieving this would pave the way for a ceasefire in Gaza and progress towards a two-state solution.

Italy is actively working towards these goals, as evidenced by the statement from G7 leaders based on an Italian proposal. Following a ceasefire in Gaza, Italy proposes involving Arab parties in the process and suggests leveraging Arab countries’ plans for Gaza’s reconstruction.
