Inter Defeats River Plate to Secure Spot in Club World Cup Last 16
Vatican City: Inter beat River Plate 2-0 on Wednesday to progress to the last 16 of the Club World Cup as Group E winners and knock the Buenos Aires side out of the competition in the process. Francesco Pio Esposito opened the scoring in the 72nd minute and Alessandro Bastoni sealed the win in stoppage time.
According to Ansa News Agency, River Plate had two players sent off and their Argentina full-back Marcos Acu±a was at the centre of ugly scenes at the end of the match when, at one stage, he had to be held back as he tried to get to Inter’s Denzel Dumfries.
