Industrial Production Sees Significant Decline in December 2024

Rome: Industrial production in Italy experienced a marked decline, falling by 3.5% in 2024 compared to the previous year, as reported by ISTAT on Wednesday. This downturn highlights a challenging year for the sector, with consistent negative trends observed throughout each month.

According to Ansa News Agency, the national statistics agency noted a negative tendential dynamic in the calendar-adjusted industrial production index, with all trimesters of the year showing conjunctural drops. This steady decline underscores the struggles faced by the industrial sector over the year.

In December 2024, the seasonally-adjusted industrial production index was estimated to have decreased by 3.1% compared to November. When adjusted for calendar effects, the overall index in December 2024 recorded a year-on-year decline of 7.1%, attributed to the difference in the number of calendar working days-20 in December 2024 as opposed to 18 in the same month of 2023.
