Iceland Honors Prof. Paolo Gargiulo with OSI Knight Decoration
Reykjavk: At the University of Reykjavk, in a ceremony attended by the Undersecretary of State for Defense, Sen. Isabella Rauti, Stefano Nicoletti, the Ambassador of Italy to Norway and Iceland, presented Prof. Paolo Gargiulo with the honor of Cavaliere dell’Ordine della Stella d’Italia (OSI). This prestigious recognition was conferred upon him by the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella.
According to Ansa News Agency, Prof. Gargiulo, who serves as a Full Professor and the Director of the Institute of Biomedical and Neurological Engineering, has made remarkable contributions to Iceland’s healthcare system. His work, particularly in the realm of 3D printing for preoperative planning, has significantly impacted medical procedures in the country.
Additionally, Prof. Gargiulo has played a pivotal role in nurturing a vibrant community of young Italian scientists in Iceland. He established the “Italian hub,” a center of excellence that currently hosts a dozen Italian researchers. Furthermore, he is a co-founder of “Heilalabs,” a start-up dedicated to studying brain aging processes and developing predictive models for the early detection of neurodegenerative diseases.
