House Approves Reinstatement of St Francis National Holiday on October 4

Rome: The Lower House on Tuesday approved reinstating a national holiday for St Francis of Assisi, one of Italy’s two national saints alongside St Catherine of Siena, scheduled for October 4.

According to Ansa News Agency, the feast day of St Francis had previously been a public holiday until 1977. The recent measure was approved in a bipartisan vote, with 247 votes in favor, two against, and eight abstentions. The proposal will now move to the Senate for further consideration.
