House Approves Conditional Recognition of Palestine
Rome: The Lower House on Thursday approved a government motion on the conditional recognition of Palestine, stipulating that Hamas must free all Israeli hostages and abandon its political and military presence in Gaza and the West Bank.
According to Ansa News Agency, the Chamber of Deputies passed the first and more substantial resolution on Gaza with 175 votes in favor, 7 abstentions, and 108 against. This resolution supports the US peace plan and insists on recognizing the Palestinian state only if Hamas meets the specified conditions.
The approved resolution includes ten commitments, among which is the continuation of actions aimed at ensuring the swift and safe return of activists aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla, intercepted off Gaza by Israel on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
