Homicides by Minors Increase Significantly in 2024
Alghero: The number of homicides committed by minors more than doubled last year, increasing from 14 out of a total of 340 in 2023 to 35 out of 319 in 2024, as reported at the national congress of the Italian Society of Psychiatry and Forensic Psychopathology (Sippf).
According to Ansa News Agency, this surge has resulted in the proportion of homicides committed by minors rising to 11.8% last year from 4% in 2023. The congress, held in Alghero, highlighted this concerning trend and its implications on societal safety and youth behavior.
Additionally, the data revealed an increase in the number of victims under the age of 18, who accounted for 7% of the total homicide victims last year, compared to 4% in the previous year. The findings have raised questions about the factors contributing to this rise and the necessary interventions required to address the issue.
