Hackers Stole ID Docs from Hotels, Sold Them on Dark Web

Rome: A group of cyber criminals calling themselves Mydocs have stolen thousands of ID documents from Italian hotels and put them up for sale on the Dark Web, the Digital Italy Agency (AGID) said Tuesday. The alleged crimes reportedly involved thousands of high-resolution scans of passports, ID cards, and other identification documents used by guests at check-in.

According to Ansa News Agency, the hackers’ raids began last June, but over the past weekend, the hacker group published new posts offering for sale over 70,000 documents ‘exfiltrated’ from four different hotels, AGID said. The breach highlights a significant security concern for the hospitality sector, underscoring the need for enhanced cybersecurity measures to protect sensitive guest information.
