Govt Approves Bill Granting Expanded Legislative Powers to Rome

Rome: Premier Giorgia Meloni’s cabinet on Wednesday approved a bill aimed at granting the city of Rome greater powers. If the bill is passed, it will amend Article 114 of the Constitution, which currently outlines the structures of the Italian Republic, including the State, regions, provinces, metropolitan cities, and municipalities.

According to Ansa News Agency, the proposed bill will provide the Rome city assembly with legislative powers, allowing for enhanced control over various sectors. These sectors include urban planning, transport, commerce, tourism, culture, and the environment. The move is seen as a significant step in redefining the role and influence of the capital within Italy’s governmental structure.
