Government Vindicated in Identifying Migrant-System Abuse: Meloni

Rome: Premier Giorgia Meloni announced Wednesday that her administration has been justified in its concerns about the misuse of Italy’s legal migration system.

According to Ansa News Agency, Meloni highlighted how a year ago, amid accusations of propaganda, she filed a complaint with the National Anti-Mafia and Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office regarding significant irregularities in the ‘click day’ system for residence permits. Since then, numerous criminal activities connected to the illicit trafficking of residence permits have come to light.

Meloni pointed out recent press reports confirming issues such as fabricated digital identities, fraudulent recruitment practices, connections with mafia clans, and money exchanges for illegal entry into Italy. She emphasized the role of the judiciary and law enforcement in exposing this organized criminal network.

The Premier asserted her government’s rightness in their actions and their responsibility to report such activities. She assured that the government remains committed to combating all forms of illegality associated with immigration, stating that Italy will not be exploited by permit traffickers and those who seek shortcuts for personal gain.
