Global Trade Union Pushes for Palestine Recognition, Urges Italian Government to Act – Landini

Rome: The global trade union movement is calling for the recognition of the state of Palestine, leftwing CGIL union leader Maurizio Landini stated Friday. He urged the Italian government to take a definitive stance on the situation in Gaza, warning that inaction could lead to complicity in what he described as Israeli “genocide.”

According to Ansa News Agency, Landini highlighted a letter from the union’s global secretary directed to all parliaments and prime ministers, including Italy’s, advocating for the recognition of the Palestinian state. The letter also calls for an end to arms shipments and trade agreements with Israel, emphasizing the need to prioritize people’s rights and quality of life over military spending.

Landini further criticized the Italian government’s response to the crisis, suggesting it is not merely passive. He stressed the importance of taking a clear position given the ongoing events in Gaza. “If you don’t tell the Israeli government it must stop and stop sending them weapons, but instead continue to send them, and you don’t suspend all commercial relations, you’re actually becoming complicit in what’s happening,” Landini warned.
