Full Coordination Between European Commission and Italy on US Pasta Tariffs
Brussels: The European Commission announced on Monday that it is maintaining full coordination with Italy regarding potential US tariffs on pasta. This statement came after President Donald Trump shared a video by a MAGA activist suggesting that Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni was aiming to negotiate a separate trade agreement with the United States, bypassing the European Union.
According to Ansa News Agency, an EU executive spokesperson confirmed that “The European Commission is working in close coordination with the Italian government” on addressing the issue of possible US pasta tariffs. This clarification was in response to the controversy ignited by the video from MAGA activist Lynne Patton. The video claimed that Premier Meloni intended to secure trade agreements directly with Washington, avoiding the traditional route through Brussels.
