Foreign Ministry taking actions to address provocations by illegal regime, says President
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus is taking specific actions in response to provocations by the illegal regime in the Turkish-occupied areas, Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides told the press on Thursday.
The provocations took place against refugees from Kato Deryneia in the Famagusta district, who attempted to visit the occupied areas of Cyprus.
The President said that actions are being taken via diplomatic means on the EU and UN level in order to respond to these provocations.
On August 31st , Mayor of Paralimni- Deryneia Yiorgos Nikolettos and Deputy Mayor of Deryneia Nikos Lillis as well as members of the “Adouloti Kato Deryneia” Committee and refugees visited the Turkish-occupied areas, with the illegal regime accusing them of espionage while not allowing them to cross the checkpoint again.
Cyprus has been divided since the 1974 illegal Turkish invasion.
