Flotilla Claims Italy’s Offer to Activists Aims to Sabotage Mission
Rome: The Global Sumud Flotilla for Gaza claimed on Tuesday that Italy intends to sabotage their mission. The accusations arose after Italy offered an escape route for those concerned about potential confrontations with Israel. Activists were given the option to board the Italian Navy vessel, Alpino, which has been accompanying the Flotilla but is set to return home.
According to Ansa News Agency, Italian Defence Minister Guido Crosetto informed the Flotilla that the Alpino military frigate would provide activists the opportunity to leave their vessels before reaching what is described as a critical zone. This proposal was met with strong criticism from the Flotilla.
The Flotilla stated that the offer is not a form of protection but an act of sabotage. They alleged that the move was designed to demoralize and divide their peaceful and humanitarian mission. The Flotilla described the offer as cowardice masked as diplomacy, emphasizing their disapproval of Italy’s actions.
