First Migrants to Italy’s Albanian Processing Centers Identified as Bangladeshis and Egyptians

SHENGJIN — Italy’s new migrant processing centers in Albania will initially receive Bangladeshi and Egyptian migrants, set to arrive aboard the Navy ship Libra this Wednesday morning, according to the latest updates.

According to Ansa News Agency, these migrants were initially found on several small boats, intercepted by Italian patrol boats in international waters on Sunday night. Following the interception, the migrants were transferred to the Libra for transport to Shengjin, where Italy has established part of its offshore processing initiative aimed at managing the flow and assessment of asylum seekers and migrants entering through the Mediterranean route.

This operation reflects Italy’s ongoing efforts to collaborate with neighboring countries to handle migrant arrivals more effectively, amidst rising numbers and ongoing debates over immigration policies within the European Union.
