Paris: The fate of the European automotive industry is being played out this year, Stellantis President John Elkann and Renault CEO Luca De Meo stated in an interview with Le Figaro on Monday. They highlighted the significant challenges and strategic issues facing the sector, as Europe faces increasing competition from China and shifting market dynamics.

According to Ansa News Agency, Elkann emphasized the unprecedented shift in global automotive production, noting, “This year, for the first time, China will produce more than Europe and the United States combined. 2025 is a crucial moment.” This statement underscores the urgency for the European car industry to adapt and strategize in response to these global changes.

De Meo expressed concerns about the current state of the industry, describing the market level as disastrous. He further highlighted the broader implications for European states, pointing out that the automotive sector generates 400 billion euros in tax revenues in Europe.
