European Commission Advances Ukraine-EU Healthcare Integration at Key Conference
BRUSSELS: Today, the European Commission is set to make significant strides in healthcare integration between Ukraine and the European Union, as Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Stella Kyriakides, delivers a key video message at a conference focused on this critical issue. High-level officials including Olga Stefanishyna, Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, and Viktor Liashko, Minister of Health, will join Kyriakides to discuss both the accomplishments and challenges faced by the Ukrainian healthcare sector amid its ongoing integration efforts with the EU.
According to Cyprus News Agency, this EU-funded conference aims to bolster the connection between Ukraine and EU healthcare systems and enhance bilateral cooperation with EU Member States. The event will also feature insights from young leaders who will present their vision for the future of Ukraine’s healthcare within the EU framework. The conference comes as part of the broader EU support to Ukraine following Russia’s 2022 invasion, which includes
transferring over 3,600 patients to hospitals in EU/EEA countries and funding mental health services for war-affected Ukrainians.
Commissioner Kyriakides emphasized the EU’s commitment, stating, “Today’s important conference demonstrates our continued and unwavering solidarity and support with Ukraine, and the EU’s full commitment to supporting Ukraine on its path to European integration.” She highlighted the deepened cooperation in health and the ongoing support to help Ukraine meet EU membership requirements.
The integration of Ukraine into the EU healthcare system is seen as a pivotal step in the broader European integration process, reflecting the EU’s strategic interest in a stable and health-secure neighboring region. The conference today not only symbolizes a mutual commitment to health and safety but also a step forward in political and economic integration between Ukraine and the European Union.
