EU: ‘Strategy for Young Farmers Coming This Fall’

Warsaw: The European Commission is working to present a generational renewal strategy “in the fall,” which “will include initiatives aimed at making it easier for young people to enter the agricultural sector.” This was confirmed by EU Agriculture Commissioner Christophe Hansen, speaking to ministers of the 27 Member States during the informal meeting taking place in Warsaw.

According to Ansa News Agency, the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) “already plays a key role in supporting generational renewal, but it’s not enough,” noted the Luxembourgish Commissioner, referring to the EU initiatives supporting young farmers.

Among them, the Horizon Europe research program “allocates a budget of pound 12 million specifically for projects aimed at making the agricultural sector more attractive to newcomers and young farmers,” he recalled.

In addition, the CAP Strategic Plans provide another pound 8.5 billion in support for young farmers, including income and investment support, while the European Investment Bank has allocated pound 3 billion to finance the agricultural sector, with a particular focus on young farmers.
