ENI and Petronas Announce Joint Venture for Upstream Assets in Southeast Asia

Rome: Energy giant ENI and Malaysia’s state energy company Petronas have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a joint venture aimed at managing upstream assets in Indonesia and Malaysia, as announced by the Italian energy group.

According to Ansa News Agency, the collaboration between these two energy firms is expected to create significant growth opportunities in both Malaysia and Indonesia. The joint venture is anticipated to become a major player in the LNG sector within the region, with a goal of achieving a sustainable production level of 500 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day in the medium term.

The statement from the companies highlights that the joint venture will consolidate approximately 3 billion barrels of oil equivalent in reserves, with the potential for an additional 10 billion barrels of oil equivalent through future exploration. This strategic move is poised to generate substantial synergies and bolster the companies’ presence in the Southeast Asian energy market.
