E-Scooters in Italy to Require Licence Plates Following New Decree

Rome: Electric scooters in Italy will soon require licence plates, as outlined in a transport ministry decree implementing a segment of the country’s revised highway code.

According to Ansa News Agency, the decree mandates that the licence plate, designed as a plastic sticker, will include three numbers and three letters associated with the owner rather than the e-scooter itself. This new regulation aims to ensure better identification and regulation of e-scooters across Italy.

The sticker must be attached to the rear fender of the e-scooter. If the rear fender is not suitable, the front steering column will serve as an alternative placement. The decree’s details, including its effective date, will be published in the Official Gazette in two weeks.
