E-R Disowns Riot Cop Eviction in Bologna
Bologna: The regional government of Emilia-Romagna on Thursday disowned an eviction of two flats in Bologna that caused clashes between residents and police in riot gear.
According to Ansa News Agency, Giovanni Paglia, the regional councilor for housing policies, expressed his disapproval of the actions taken during the eviction. He stated, “The images of today’s eviction on Via Michelino are shocking and cannot be part of our region’s history: they are the sign of a boundary that has long been crossed between the right to housing enshrined in the Constitution and the logic of speculation at all costs.”
Paglia further criticized the apparent inaction on housing issues, mentioning the lack of progress on the Housing Plan purportedly being developed by the Prime Minister. “We hear talk of a Housing Plan from the Prime Minister, but to date there is no sign of it, not even as an abstract thought,” he added.
