Drought Commissioner Warns of Difficult Summer for Southern Italy and Islands

Rome: Italy’s drought czar Nicola Dell’Acqua on Tuesday warned that the situation of water reservoirs in southern Italy and on the islands would be particularly difficult this summer. Dell’Acqua, who was appointed national drought commissioner by the government in May 2023, is tasked with overseeing efforts to address the country’s most severe drought in 70 years.

According to Ansa News Agency, Dell’Acqua expressed a “pessimistic vision” regarding the water supply situation. He highlighted that the South and the islands have a reservoir situation that is worse than the previous year, indicating that the upcoming summer will pose significant challenges.
