Drone from Lebanon Hits Netanyahu’s Residence, Prompting Security Concerns

CAESAREA: A drone launched from Lebanon on Saturday struck the residence of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in northern Israel, according to his office. The attack has raised significant security concerns and prompted an investigation by the Israeli Air Force.

According to Anadolu Agency, the prime minister’s office confirmed that the drone targeted Netanyahu’s private home in Caesarea. Fortunately, the prime minister and his family were not at home at the time of the incident. The attempted drone strike has been labeled by Israeli media, including the daily Maariv, as a “severe security failure.”

The Israeli Air Force has initiated an investigation to determine how the drone managed to penetrate Caesarea’s airspace without being intercepted. Earlier, the Israeli army reported that three drones had been fired from Lebanon. While two were successfully intercepted, the third crashed into a building in Caesarea, causing no casualties.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. However, on T
hursday, Hezbollah announced its plans to enter a “new and escalating phase” in its confrontation with Israel, though details of this phase remain unspecified. This announcement followed a period of intensified cross-border conflict between Israeli forces and Hezbollah since the Gaza war last October.

In recent developments, Israel escalated its military actions in Lebanon late last month, resulting in the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and several other commanders. The extensive airstrikes and subsequent ground invasion have resulted in over 1,500 deaths and the displacement of approximately 1.2 million people.
