Draghi’s Warning on EU’s Geopolitical Relevance Resounds with Meloni

Rimini: Ex-premier and former European Central Bank chief Mario Draghi’s warning about the European Union’s trajectory towards irrelevance has found an echo in current Premier Giorgia Meloni’s recent statements. Speaking at the Rimini Meeting of the influential Catholic activist group Comunione e Liberazione, Meloni underscored the EU’s struggles in maintaining geopolitical relevance.

According to Ansa News Agency, Meloni highlighted the EU’s growing inability to effectively address competitiveness challenges posed by global giants such as China and the United States. “The EU is increasingly condemned to geopolitical irrelevance, incapable of effectively responding to the competitiveness challenges posed by China and the US, as Mario Draghi rightly pointed out from this stage,” she stated during her keynote speech.

Meloni expressed her agreement with many criticisms regarding the EU’s current state, acknowledging that she has voiced similar concerns over the years. Her advocacy for these issues, she noted,
has often been met with harsh criticism from those who are now supporting these viewpoints.
