Don’t Put Preconditions on Peace in Ukraine – Vatican
Vatican City: The Holy See on Monday released a statement regarding a telephone conversation between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin that took place on March 14.
According to Ansa News Agency, Zelensky extended his wishes for a speedy recovery to Pope Francis, who is currently being treated for bilateral pneumonia in a Rome hospital. During the conversation, Zelensky also informed Parolin about the ceasefire initiative proposed by the United States, which Ukraine has agreed to.
The statement from the Holy See emphasized its continued prayers for peace in Ukraine and expressed hope that the involved parties will embrace the chance for sincere dialogue. The Vatican stressed that such dialogue should not be subject to any preconditions and should aim at achieving a just and lasting peace. Additionally, the statement encouraged efforts to secure the release of prisoners.
