Dog Tax in South Tyrol Criticized by Animal Rights Group

Bolzano: A tax on dogs brought into South Tyrol (Alto Adige) by tourists has been labeled as “pure madness” by the animal rights group AIDAA. “This tax is pure madness and contrasts with what happens in the rest of Italy, where no taxes are paid on pet ownership,” stated a release from the Italian Association for the Defense of Animals and the Environment.

According to Ansa News Agency, AIDAA has challenged the Province of Bolzano’s plan to reintroduce the dog tax. The group described it as “a real tax” and called for the authorities to reconsider the legislation. They warned that if the law is enacted, they would engage in civil disobedience actions to oppose the measure actively.
