Commitment to Exempt Agri-Food from Tariffs – PM’s Office

Rome: The government remains committed to exempting agri-food from US tariffs, Premier Giorgia Meloni’s office at Palazzo Chigi in Rome said Thursday.

According to Ansa News Agency, “The Government remains committed, together with the European Commission and other EU member states, to further increase the exempt product sectors in the coming months, as envisaged in the joint declaration, starting with the agri-food sector,” said a Palazzo Chigi press release on the EU-US joint declaration formalizing the agreement on 15% tariffs. The statement emphasized that “particular efforts will also be made to conclude an agreement on steel and aluminum, also envisaged in the joint declaration.”

The joint declaration signifies a collaborative effort between the EU and the US to mitigate tariff impacts on crucial sectors, with a particular focus on agri-food products. The commitment from the Italian government, as outlined in the press release, aims to expand exempted product categories, thereby supporting the agri-food sector, which is vital to both economic and social frameworks within EU member states.
